Biography and Works

Robert G. Aikins credits his father, a World War I flyer, with inspiring his early interest in aviation. Building model airplanes grew into designing and building model cars. This led to the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and a career spanning 35 years designing cars and trucks for the Ford Motor Company. After retiring as Chief Designer, Robert returned to his love of airplanes and started oil painting in 2001. His work covers all phases of aviation history with over 100 paintings ...

His work covers all phases of aviation history with over 100 paintings completed to date. He is an Artist Member of the American Society of Aviation Artists with work exhibited at the National Naval Aviation Museum, the Henry Ford Museum and at the annual “Designer’s Night” event held in conjunction with the Detroit International Auto Show. Robert is a Friend of the National Museum of the USAF, a member of the Smithsonian Air and Space and the Yankee Air Museum. He and his wife, Ro, reside in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
